ALFALFA HAY IS THE PERFECT HAY FOR YOUNG HERBIVORES OR TREAT FOR ADULTS

Oxbow Alf alfa hay is an exceptional hay for young animals. It has a higher crude protein content, metabolizable energy and calcium content than any other forage. This hay has the right fiber content required for normal digestive function. Alfalfa provides all the calcium needed for growing bones.Alfalfa is also a source of important other minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, zinc and selenium.

Alfalfa Hay, however, should not be fed to all (adult) animals, but if used carefully in certain situations (on veterinary advice), it can be a valuable tool in managing the feeding regimen. Because of the delicious flavor, this hay can be used as an appetite stimulant when the animal is sick or is convalescing following surgery. It can be offered to adult animals only as a treat.

ALFALFA HAY FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS.

Growing animals-under 6 months of age: Unlimited doses plus all-you-can-eat grass hay.
Mature animals: Small occasional doses.
Nursing females: Unlimited doses plus grass hay at will.

Alfalfa hay can be used to help animals gain weight and give shine to their fur. In addition, it can be a valuable appetite stimulant for thin or convalescent animals. Rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas under six months of age can be fed Alfalfa hay daily. After six months of age, the animal should begin a gradual transition to 100 percent grass hay such as Oat Hay (wild oats), Western Timothy (timothy or timothy), Orchard Grass (bunchgrass).

Alfalfa is a high-fiber legume forage hay that is sometimes referred to as "the queen of forages." This hay differs from other grass hays such as timothy (botanical name: Phleum pratense), bunch grass (Dactylis glomerata) in terms of leaf, stem and root structure. Alfalfa is a legume hay, and the protein, calcium and energy content is higher than that of grass hay. Because of Oxbow Animal Health's special attention to harvesting and haying at night, you will notice that Oxbow Alfalfa hay has a soft stalk with the leaves still attached.
