The 'anatomy of the dog and cat is structured for an essentially carnivorous diet. Despite outward differences in breed, all dogs and cats are descended from their own primordial ancestors, canids and felids, with whom they share the genetic code.

Thus, just like their ancestors, our dogs and cats, although they have progressively adapted their digestives to the prey on which they feed, prefer a carnivorous diet, which is why anatomically they are equipped with:

- sharp, pointed teeth for tearing meat apart;

- a jaw joint that allows a wide mouth opening for swallowing large mouthfuls of meat;

- a short, simple-structured digestive system with a strongly acidic gastric pH suitable for digesting and metabolizing protein, thus meat.
